About Closs & Hamblin
Mr Harold Closs and Mr Cyril Hamblin founded Closs & Hamblin on April 1, 1933. The first shops were in London, and they specialised in silks and other dress-making fabrics, as well as paper patterns. This was back when the off-the-rack garments we now take for granted were few and far between, and sewing and dress-making were the norm for everyday families. Fabrics were sourced from Northern England and the Midlands textile mills, with more specialised cloths coming from Italy and further afield.
